Summer Cooling Tips for Around the House
Jun 20, 2017
Summer is here and you know what that means…longer days, warmer nights, and the need to cool down! We’ve rounded up some summer cooling tips for around the house. Each of these tips are so easy to implement, you can start today!
- LED’s, yes please! Did you know 90% of the electricity produced by incandescent bulbs is heat? Upgrade to LED’s which emit far less heat, last longer, and are generally more energy efficient.
- Clear the way! If you have central air conditioning in your home, check all registers and ensure they are clear of obstructions like furniture or drapes. This will increase air flow and cool your house more efficiently!
- Goodbye sun! Keep the sunshine out of your house by closing the blinds or curtains during the hottest parts of the day.
- Say YES to ceiling fans! Instead of turning on the A/C around the entire house, use the ceiling fan while you watch TV in the living room. Just remember to turn off the fan when you leave the room, because fans cool people…not rooms!
- Open please! On days when the weather is mild, take advantage of the cool breeze by opening your windows and doors instead of turning up the A/C.
